F.I.T. 201 – Foundational Course

Course Overview

What You’ll Learn

F.I.T. 201 provides a system-agnostic introduction to Facial Examination, covering key concepts and methodologies in the field. Topics include:

The history and evolution of the discipline
Key agencies and organizations shaping the field
Definitions and contributions to facial uniqueness
The process of facial comparisons using ACE-V and Morphological Analysis methodologies
The stability of facial features (e.g., weight gain, aging, expressions)
Common challenges in the discipline, including image quality issues and bias
Hands-on 1:1 comparisons, with a focus on documenting observations from a variety of sources (e.g., social media, mugshots)

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to conduct 1:N (one-to-many) comparisons using images from diverse sources.

Event Details

All online courses require the following:

A work-provided computer or a personal computer
High-speed Internet Service Provider
A speaker (or headset) and microphone
A camera (or webcam) (recommended)

Things to know about the class:

Days 1-2 focus on the lecture.
Days 2-4 focus on practical exercises with feedback from the instructor.
Class participation (through microphone or chat) is encouraged in discussions surrounding the lecture and practical exercises.
Breaks are given throughout the class.

Platform: Microsoft Teams (can be used in a web browser or downloaded/installed on your computer https://teams.microsoft.com/downloads)

Software: An answer sheet formatted in Microsoft Excel (can be uploaded into Google Sheets) and a pdf copy of the presentation will be sent.
